Another blow for Everton? AC Milan in ‘advanced negotiations’ for James Rodriguez

Another blow for Everton? AC Milan in ‘advanced negotiations’ for James Rodriguez

James Rodriguez is in line to swap Everton for Milan this summer, according to reports doing the rounds in the Spanish media.

James back in form

Colombian international Rodriguez of course only made the move to Goodison Park last summer.

On the back of another testing season on the books of Zinedine Zidane’s Real, during which he struggled for game-time, the 29-year-old opted to try his hand in the Premier League for the first time.

And the ensuing campaign, in turn, proved largely positive.

Whilst he was forced to deal with a number of niggling fitness issues, Rodriguez, when fit, slotted into Everton’s midfield with ease, adding some much-needed guile to the club’s ranks.

All told, in 26 appearances across all competitions, the talented South American racked up 6 goals and 9 assists.

Milan bound?

Rodriguez’s Everton switch developing in the first place, though, only came about due to the persistence of Carlo Ancelotti, who had previously overseen some of the finest form of the Colombian’s career whilst in Madrid.

In turn, upon the tactician bringing an abrupt end to his Goodison stint at the beginning of the month, it came as little surprise when speculation surrounding Rodriguez’s future quickly followed.

And, as outlined above, if the latest word doing the rounds in Spain this weekend is anything to go by, then a Toffees exit for the South American now appears to be legitimately on the cards.

As per a report from Marca, Jorge Mendes, Rodriguez’s agent, is ‘working to find a new club for him’.

Not only that, but it is claimed that negotiations have already reached an advanced point with one suitor in particular. The outfit in question? AC Milan.

The Rossoneri are on the lookout for attack-minded reinforcements in the middle of the park, on the back of Hakan Calhanoglu’s abrupt departure for rivals Inter.

And it appears that Rodriguez has been identified as a priority target. Marca suggest that those in a position of power at the San Siro are in constant contact with Mendes, with negotiations with Everton expected to be opened over the coming days.

A deal worth around €10 million, in turn, could well be in the offing.
