Philippe Coutinho joined La Liga giants FC Barcelona in January of 2018.
Barca are said to have paid around £130m for the Brazilian’s services.
However, despite the hefty price tag, Coutinho’s time in Spain has been rather lacklustre.
The now 27-year-old featured in 34 league clashes throughout the 2018/19 season.
But, even when playing alongside some of the world’s best players, such as Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez, Coutinho has struggled.
In those 34 league ties, Coutinho scored just five and assisted two.
Coutinho has also recently spoken out about not meeting the expectations of Barca’s fans.
“I don’t have much to say to them [Barcelona fans].
“I’m grateful for all the support they’ve always given me. I’ve had difficult moments because I’ve not performed as they well as they were expecting on the pitch.
“But that’s football and I’m working hard to improve.” As quoted by Marca.
After a rather average 18 months with the Catalan side, Coutinho is now being linked with a move away.
Spanish outlet SPORT, citing Le10Sport, ran the headline ‘Liverpool ready to recover Coutinho’.
As per the report from SPORT, Liverpool are said to be open to the return of Coutinho. Jurgen Klopp, meanwhile, wants to reinforce his squad to compete with the likes of Manchester City.
Coutinho would play 201 games during his stint at Anfield, in which he scored 54 and assisted 41, before being sold to Barca.
