The Community Shield is the precursor to the Premier League campaign getting underway.
Traditionally, the match is contended between the winner of the Premier League and the winner of the FA Cup from the previous season.
However, this year will be slightly different as Manchester City clinched the Premier League crown and then, on Saturday, saw off Manchester United in the FA Cup final to land both trophies.
So, as City won both competitions, 2nd place in the Premier League will instead battle it out with them and in this case, it was Arsenal.
The Gunners spent most of 2022/23 top of the division, but their collapse in April allowed Man City to swoop in and claim a 5th league title in 6 years.
The matchup does allow the Gunners some semblance of revenge, though, as beating Pep Guardiola’s side in the Community Shield could set the tone for the 2023/24 campaign.
Arsenal have won the Community Shield 16 times, with only Manchester United (21) winning more.
Arsenal won the Community Shield in the following years; 1930, 1931, 1933, 1934, 1938, 1948, 1953, 1991, 1998, 1999, 2002, 2004, 2014, 2015, 2017, 2020.
