Barcelona ‘transfer list’ midfielder ahead of summer exit

A major update on the future of an out-of-favour member of the midfield setup at La Liga giants Barcelona has come to the fore on Friday evening.

The player in question? Franck Kessie.

Ivorian international Kessie, of course, opted to take his talents to the Camp Nou last summer.

Following the expiration of his contract with Serie A champions AC Milan, the 26-year-old linked up with the Blaugrana, hopeful of building on the kind of form which had seen him long considered one of Italian football’s best in the middle of the park.

All told, though, Kessie’s time in Spain has since proven to be largely underwhelming.

Amid Barca’s charge towards the La Liga title, the one-time Atalanta standout has been afforded starts in just four fixtures.

This, of course, comes amid fierce competition for places in Catalunya, with all of Sergio Busquets, Frenkie de Jong, Pedri and Gavi too at the disposal of Xavi Hernandez.

Considering Kessie’s unquestionable talent, it has therefore not come as a massive surprise to see the midfield all-rounder tipped for a swift Blaugrana exit come the season’s end.

The last couple of months alone have seen the likes of Inter Milan, Juventus, Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea all tipped as potential destinations for the 60-time capped international.

And, if the latest word stemming from the Spanish media on Friday is anything to go by, then such suitors look set to be afforded an imminent boost.

This comes amid claims that Barcelona have come to the decision to part ways with Kessie in the summer.

As per a report from Diario Sport, amid an ongoing search for fresh funds, the midfielder has been identified as a necessary sale.

Xavi, for his part, has given his blessing to the move, with Kessie, as a result, expected to find a new home ahead of next season.
