An injury-time winner, 20 minutes of added time, a mass brawl & 7 red cards: River vs Boca Superclasico descends into chaos

Footage of the chaotic scenes which rounded out the Argentine Superclasico has piqued widespread attentions late on Sunday night.

For those not aware, the latest edition of one of the fiercest rivalries in world football played out a short time ago.

The matchup in question saw historic enemies River Plate and Boca Juniors go toe-to-toe, in an Argentine Primera Division clash.

And, safe to say, the always fiery fixture did not disappoint.

When all was said and done, it was hosts River who emerged on the right side of a hard-fought 1-0 result.

This came courtesy of Miguel Borja’s converted spot-kick, with a full 93 minutes on the clock.

The brawl, which saw both sets of benches empty onto the Estadio Monumental pitch, lasted for several minutes, leaving the officials in charge of proceedings with the thankless task of dishing out appropriate punishment.

In turn, it was decided that no fewer than seven red cards were warranted, four for those on the pitch and three for members of the benches (3 River, 4 Boca).

This culminated in a staggering 20 minutes of injury time being required, with River, ultimately, clinging to their one-goal lead through the full-time whistle.
