Will 2022 be a season to remember for Philadelphia Union?

As recently as 2020, Jim Curtin's side were Supporters' Shield winners before finishing second in the east last season.

The Union then overcame New York Red Bulls and Nashville in the play-offs before falling to NYCFC in the Conference Finals.

Nevertheless, they've now appeared in the play-offs in three successive season, finishing no lower than third in the east in this timeframe.

In the off-season, star striker Kacper Przybyłko has left with Alvas Powell, Jamiro Monteiro and Ilsinho also departing.

Julián Carranza has come in as a young DP, while Mikael Uhre is the new centre-forward and he'll fancy his chances of scoring plenty in this league.

Overall, Philadelphia will be targeting another strong campaign, looking to start with a home victory in MLS' first match of 2022.

As for Minnesota United, they ended last season fifth over in the Western Conference, qualifying for the play-offs for a third consecutive year.

However, Adrian Heath's side didn't make any further progress, losing 3-1 in the first round to eventual MLS Cup finalists Portland Timbers.

This will be the Loons' sixth season in Major League Soccer and they'll be targeting a return to the play-offs once again.

In terms of transfers, experienced players Osvaldo Alonso and Ján Greguš have departed for Atlanta and San Jose respectively.

Their most eye-catching arrival is, arguably, Luis Amarilla who's a striker joining from Vélez Sarsfield.

The Loons are a good team and are probably a safe bet for the play-offs but they might struggle in this cross-conference opener.
