Cincinnati vs Pittsburgh Riverhounds match preview

Will FC Cincinnati’s dream season continue?

On Saturday night, the Orange and Blue won again, this time beating Chicago Fire 1-0, with talisman Luciano Acosta bagging the winner just seven minutes from time.

This made it six successive MLS victories for Pat Noonan’s team, who are unbeaten in eight, maintaining their place at the top of the table, eight points clear of Nashville.

In total, almost at the half-way mark of this campaign, Cincinnati have lost just once, so are running away at the top of the Supporters’ Shield standings.

Meantime, in the U.S. Open Cup, the Orange and Blue have so far beaten both Louisville City and NYCFC 1-0, before a penalty shootout victory over RBNY in the previous round, following a 1-1 draw at Red Bull Arena.

So now, Cincinnati are one win away from their first appearance in the semi-finals of this competition since 2017, back when they were in USL.

The Hounds have reached the last eight of the Open Cup for the first time in 22 years, ousting Rochester New York, Maryland Bobcats and then two MLS clubs, New England Revs and Columbus Crew, to achieve this.

Meanwhile, in America’s second-tier, Bob Lilley’s team are second in the Eastern Conference, following Saturday’s 1-0 victory over Phoenix Rising at Highmark Stadium.

So, Pittsburgh are no push-overs, but Cincinnati are likely to be far too strong at TQL Stadium.
