Match preview: Team & Player Performance

Scotland's two capital clubs go head-to-head in the latest instalment of the Edinburgh Derby.

Earlier this season, these two played out a drab and uneventful goalless draw at Tynecastle but this one promises to be far more memorable.

Heart of Midlothian, despite being a newly-promoted club, are two places and a whopping 12 points above their cross-city rivals.

On Saturday, the Jambos beat Motherwell 2-0 at home with Andy Halliday and then new loan signing from Everton Ellis Simms on target.

This means Robbie Neilson's side have won seven of their last 11 Premiership games, only losing to the Old Firm since 20 November.

Thus, Hearts sit third in the table, ten points clear of Motherwell who are fourth.

Remember, if one of the top three wins the Scottish Cup, the third-place finisher will qualify for a UEFA group stage, something Hearts have never done before.

So, will their impressive season continue?

Hibernian meanwhile finished third last season, their highest finish for 16 years, but are down in fifth right now.

At the weekend, Hibs suffered a shock 3-2 home defeat to Livingston, despite leading twice through Demetri Mitchell and then Chris Cadden.

Shaun Maloney's side have failed to win any of their three Premiership games since the winter break, losing 2-0 to Celtic and drawing 0-0 at Fir Park.

This leaves the Hibees clinging onto the final potential Europa Conference League qualifying spot.

Will the home side come to life as they welcome their great Edinburgh rivals to Easter Road?

Our 101 Match Prediction: Hibernian 1-2 Heart of Midlothian

Hearts are unbeaten in three meetings with Hibs, including a 3-0 victory when they last visited Easter Road in March 2020.

None of their last eight meetings, excluding games played at neutral venues, have produced home wins.

Five of the last seven Edinburgh derbies have seen both teams score.
