Lorient will be aiming to keep up their magical run in Ligue 1 when they head to the Stade Abbe Deschamps this Friday night with the home side looking to move on swiftly from their stunning loss to Rennes.
Prior to the defeat to Rennes, it was looking like a solid start to the season for the newly-promoted side. Auxerre did, however, find themselves getting beaten from pillar to post in the match with Rennes, as they went 1-0 down inside three minutes and ending losing 5-0.
Prior to this, however, Auxerre managed to beat Montpellier and Strasbourg in Ligue 1, and a draw with Angers now leaves the club on seven points after seven games. On the other hand, the club have now let in 16 goals, and only those in the bottom three have let in more. At the same time, the loss to Rennes means three defeats in a row now for Auxerre.
As for Lorient, their incredible start to the 2022/23 season continued last time out with a win against Nantes. The 3-2 saw goals from Dango Ouattar, Ibrahima Kone, and Yoann Cathline, and with the club defeating Lyon 3-1 before this and Ajaciio 1-0 before that, they are now on a three-game winning run in contrast to Auxerre’s three losses in a row.
Lorient are now sitting fourth in the league with five wins on the board and just one loss and defeat each. Moreover, they have now scored 14 times in the French top flight, but with 11 goals let in too, there is a bit of concern surrounding their defensive qualities moving forward.
