It’s arguably the biggest game of the season for both Auxerre and Ajaccio in a meeting at the Stade Abbe Deschamps with both clubs sitting inside the bottom four and facing a long season of fighting the drop if they cannot to turn things around with just two wins each from 12 outings so far.
Auxerre do have one point more than Ajaccio heading into this one, with nine on the board for the home side and eight for the away outfit. Things are quite different on the goalscoring front, however, as Ajaccio have scored just eight goals all season long – this is one of the lowest tallies across Europe’s top five leagues and the worst in Ligue 1.
Auxerre have scored 12 of their own, but with 25 conceded, only four more sides have let in more. Ajaccio, at the very least, have only let in 19 – this is the best record from those in the bottom 12.
Auxerre managed to draw with Nice two weeks back, not long after drawing with fellow relegation fighters, Brest, which now puts them with two points in October after losses to Reims and Clermont Foot. They have, however, not won a game since the end of August, as they stunned France with two wins in their first four games of the season with a 2-1 win over Montpellier and a 1-0 loss to Strasbourg.
