Will Rayo Vallecano’s recent resurgence continue?
Despite being sat fourth on Christmas day, los Franjirrojos then sunk like a stone, failing to win any of their first 13 La Liga matches in 2022.
But, as it turned out, all they needed to end that streak was a mini-break in Catalonia.
Los Vallecanos beat Espanyol 1-0 before winning by the same scoreline just three days later up the road at Camp Nou; Álvaro García’s goal downing Barça.
Last weekend, Andoni Iraola’s side couldn’t quite make it three wins in a row but did hold Real Sociedad to a respectable 1-1 draw.
Radamel Falcao with a second half equaliser at Campo de Fútbol de Vallecas, his first goal since a consolation header at the Bernabéu in November.
So, last season’s Segunda División play-off winners are now 11th, with 41 points to their name, and are safe for another season.
The same certainly cannot be said of their Madrid rivals Getafe, who need another victory to ensure their survival in the top-flight.
On Monday night, Quique Sánchez Flores’ side battled hard and held recent Copa del Rey winners Real Betis to a goalless draw.
Having won at Celta de Vigo in their previous outing, Azulones are now 15th, five points clear of Granada and danger.

Enes Ünal will continue to be Getafe’s main goal threat but could continue to have Borja Mayoral as a strike partner.
Mauro Arambarri and Nemanja Maksimović rekindled their midfield partnership on Monday night, while Okay Yokuşlu was drafted into the back three.
