Chelsea have confirmed the signing of England Under-21 winger Jamie Gittens from Borussia Dortmund in a deal worth £48.5 million, with an additional £3.5 million potentially due in performance-related add-ons.
The 20-year-old has signed a seven-year contract at Stamford Bridge, marking another statement of intent from the West London club in what has already been a busy summer transfer window.
Gittens, who began his youth career at Manchester City before making the move to Germany in 2020, made a name for himself in the Bundesliga with a string of exciting performances.
He registered 17 goals and 14 assists across 107 appearances for Dortmund, showcasing his pace, flair and attacking intelligence.
Speaking after completing his move, Gittens said: “It feels great to join such a big club as Chelsea. It’s an amazing feeling.”
Though he will have to wait to make his Chelsea debut, with the Club World Cup currently underway, expectations are already high for the young winger’s future at Stamford Bridge.

Dortmund officially announced the transfer on Thursday, with sporting director Sebastian Kehl revealing the process had been “challenging” but ultimately satisfactory for all parties.
“Jamie is an outstanding player who has given us a great deal of pleasure,” Kehl said. “He now wants to take the next step in his career at Chelsea, and we wish him all the best and much success.”
Gittens joins a growing list of new arrivals at Chelsea this summer, including Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap, Brighton forward Joao Pedro, Sporting Lisbon midfielder Dario Essugo, and Strasbourg defender Mamadou Sarr.
