Match preview

One of the standout ties in the 4th round of the FA Cup is set to play out at Craven Cottage on Saturday, January 28th.

The matchup in question will see high-flying Fulham act as hosts, in a meeting with Championship outfit Sunderland.

Beginning with the former, Fulham booked their spot in the latest round of England’s most prestigious cup competition courtesy of a 2-0 downing of Hull City three weeks ago.

This came as the 4th of five successive victories across all competitions, amid what has proven to be a thoroughly impressive campaign for Marco Silva’s troops to date.

And yet, the Cottagers will nevertheless head into the weekend’s action in search of a bounce-back result.

This comes with each of their last two Premier League outings having culminated in hard-fought defeats, at the hands of Newcastle and Tottenham respectively.

On the other hand, the upcoming visitors to Craven Cottage will head into Saturday’s clash with confidence high in the camp.

Sunderland, for their part, had a last-gasp injury-time double to thank for their own passage to the 4th round of the FA Cup, after coming within minutes of being sent packing from the competition in embarrassing fashion at the hands of Shrewsbury Town.

This, in turn, was followed by another concerning result in their ensuing fixture, as Luke O’Nien’s early dismissal proved costly en route to a 3-1 home defeat to Swansea City.

Last time out, however, the Black Cats got things back on track, and in style.

After welcoming a rampant Middlesbrough outfit fresh off seven Championship wins from eight to the Stadium of Light, goals on the part of Ross Stewart and Manchester United loanee Amad Diallo ensured that Tony Mowbray’s men emerged on the right side of a 2-0 scoreline.

Sunderland, in turn, may well fancy their chances of springing a surprise, in condemning Fulham to a third straight defeat on Saturday afternoon.

We at 101, though, are backing Marco Silva’s hosts, when all is said and done, to simply have too much quality for their Championship opponents to contend with.
