Match preview

Ashton Gate will act as the venue, when a pair of Championship clubs go head-to-head for a spot in the fifth round of the FA Cup on Saturday, January 28th.

The matchup in question will see Bristol City act as hosts, in a daunting meeting with West Bromwich Albion.

Beginning with the former, Bristol, for their part, have enjoyed a timely return to form of late.

After heading into the turn of the year fresh off just one win from nine across all competitions - including a two-goal defeat at the hands of their upcoming opponents - Nigel Pearson’s troops have since navigated six straight outings without defeat.

Such efforts have culminated in the Robins putting some much-needed breathing room between themselves and the Championship’s bottom three.

Back on the FA Cup front, meanwhile, Bristol booked their spot in the competition’s 4th round at the expense of Swansea City at the 2nd time of asking early last week.

This came as Sam Bell’s strike deep into extra time proved enough to guide the visitors to a 2-1 replay triumph at the Liberty Stadium.

Turning attentions towards Saturday’s visitors to Ashton Gate, West Brom too required a 2nd bite of the cherry to march on to the FA Cup’s 4th round.

After coming within a whisker of being condemned to what would have proven an embarrassing exit at the hands of Chesterfield, the Baggies’ class showed in the Hawthorns replay, en route to an eventual 4-0 win.

This result marked a 10th victory in 12 for Carlos Corberan’s in-form side, who have surged from the thick of the battle against relegation to League One, to a heights of the promotion playoff battle in the space of a few short months.

And yet, West Brom will head into Saturday’s Ashton Gate clash eyeing a bounce-back result.

This comes after the Midlands-based outfit surrendered the advantage late on, to ultimately fall to a 2-1 defeat at Championship table-toppers Burnley last weekend.

We at 101, though, are nevertheless backing West Brom, when all is said and done, to send Bristol City packing from the FA Cup this weekend.
