Benin vs Senegal match preview

Will Senegal’s 100% record in Africa Cup of Nations qualifying continue?

So far, the reigning champions have won all four matches in Group K, starting with a 3-1 victory when Benin visited Dakar 12 months ago; Sadio Mané scoring a hat-trick.

Then, in March, Aliou Cissé’s side beat Mozambique 5-1 at home and 1-0 in Maputo, wins that secured the Lions of Teranga’s spot at next year’s AFCON, where they’ll seek to retain their title.

As for Benin, they’ve featured at four AFCONs this century, most-recently reaching the quarter-finals in 2019, but are set to miss out on 2024.

The Cheetahs are still yet to win a game in this group, losing their first two matches before back-to-back draws with Rwanda earlier this year.

So, unsurprisingly, Gernot Rohr’s side are bottom of the section, but are still, just about, in contention, sat one point below Rwanda and two adrift Mozambique, the side occupying the up for grabs qualification position.

Can the hosts claim a priceless victory at Stade de l’Amitié, or will Senegal prove too strong?
