Match preview

After last Thursday’s victory over Arsenal, PSV Eindhoven have booked their place in the knockout stages.

On matchday five, goals from Joey Veerman and Luuk de Jong saw the Dutch side beat the group-leaders 2-0 at home, and deservedly so.

Having also hammered Zürich both home and away, Ruud van Nistelrooy’s team are guaranteed a top two finish.

This though is only because Bodø/Glimt slipped up in Switzerland simultaneously.

Despite taking an early lead through Amahl Pellegrino, the Norwegian champions were actually beaten 2-1 by a Zurich side pointless at kick off.

This defeat at Letzigrund means Kjetil Knutsen’s team cannot reach the knockout phase, but are in pole position to drop into the Europa Conference League.

A win would guarantee this, although all Bodø/Glimt need to do is match Zürich’s result in North London.

As for PSV, if they’re victorious in the Arctic Circle, and Arsenal drop points at home, they’ll pinch first place.

The Yellow Horde had won 14 successive European home games before the Gunners’ win there earlier this month.

Thus, a home victory at Aspmyra Stadion would not surprise anyone.
