Match preview

Two sides desperate for victory are set to lock horns in a Championship clash at The Hawthorns this Saturday, March 11th.

The matchup in question will see West Bromwich Albion act as hosts, in a meeting with Huddersfield Town.

Beginning with the former, West Brom, of course, remain in the hunt for an eventual spot in the promotion playoffs.

Carlos Corberan’s troops currently sit 9th in the table in England’s 2nd tier, four points off the pace of sixth-placed Norwich City.

All told, across their last five, Corberan and co. have racked up two wins and a draw, to go along with two defeats.

This run showcased both the best and worst of West Brom, too, in featuring a stellar two-goal downing of high-flying Middlesbrough, immediately followed by an alarming two-goal loss at the hands of Hull City.

Last time out, the Baggies did at least manage to steady the ship, though, courtesy of a hard-fought win over bottom-of-the-table Wigan Athletic.

Safe to say, then, that nothing but a 2nd victory on the bounce will suffice, when the Midlands giants return to action later today.

This comes with upcoming opponents Huddersfield Town, like Wigan, also firmly entrenched in the Championship’s bottom three.

After being pipped to promotion in heartbreaking fashion last time out, Huddersfied are now staring relegation to the third tier of English football square in the face.

The Terriers have managed just a solitary victory from their last twelve across all competitions, and were recently put to the sword by four goals to nil in successive outings, by Burnley and Coventry City.

To their credit, Neil Warnock’s troops did at least manage to stop the bleeding to some extent last time out, in emerging from a meeting with Bristol City with a share of the spoils.

But they nevertheless remain a full six points from safety, quickly running out of time to turn things around.

And we at 101 do not envision any such run being kicked into gear on Saturday, either.

Instead, we are backing hosts West Brom to ultimately add to Huddersfield’s woes, courtesy of a comfortable victory at The Hawthorns.
