Match preview
A Watford outfit in the thick of a promotion push will act as hosts this weekend, in welcoming a Rotherham United outfit fresh off a remarkable bounce-back result to Vicarage Road for a Championship clash.
Beginning with the former, Watford, amid what has proven a largely hit-and-miss campaign to date, have managed to claw their way up the table in England’s 2nd tier over the course of recent weeks.
Despite continuing to prove maddeningly inconsistent, a pair of back-to-back victories over Norwich City and Blackpool mean that the Hornets now sit adrift of only runaway pair Burnley and Sheffield United in the Championship table.
And yet, despite what looks a largely encouraging situation at present, Slaven Bilic’s troops have actually slipped to defeat in three of their last five.
This comes with Watford having rounded out 2022 with concerning losses at the hands of both Millwall and Swansea City.
Then, two weeks ago, they were sent packing from the FA Cup by Reading.
A third league triumph on the trot on Saturday would therefore come as a major source of relief for a Hornets fanbase no doubt crying out for a prolonged stretch of positive results.

And yet, should they meet a Rotherham United side in similar form to that which returned to winning ways last weekend, then such a result will prove altogether difficult to come by.
Rotherham, of course, have spent the last couple of months battling it out towards the foot of the table in England’s 2nd division.
In turn, fresh off five defeats from six, including a hugely concerning FA Cup hammering at the hands of Ipswich Town, few afforded the Millers much hope upon welcoming promotion-chasing Blackburn to the New York Stadium last weekend.
When all was said and done, though, not only did the day’s hosts emerge triumphant, but they did so in nothing short of spectacular fashion.
This came as goals on the part of all of Hakeem Odoffin, Oliver Rathbone, Shane Ferguson and Conor Washington guided Rotherham to the right side of a 4-0 final scoreline.
Such efforts, coupled with Watford’s inconsistencies, make Saturday’s clash at Vicarage Road something of a difficult one to call.
We at 101, though, are backing the day’s hosts to ultimately do enough to condemn Rotherham to a 12th defeat of the campaign.
