Watford vs Birmingham City match preview

Two sides in the midst of altogether contrasting spells of form are set to lock horns in a Championship clash at Vicarage Road this Saturday, September 16th.

The matchup in question will see Watford act as hosts, in a meeting with Birmingham City.

Beginning with the former, Watford, for their part, have endured a season to forget to date.

After exploding out of the blocks courtesy of a 4-0 drubbing of Queens Park Rangers, the Hornets have since failed to secure a single victory in five across all competitions.

This stretch includes an EFL Cup ousting at the hands of Stevenage, and league defeats to both Stoke City and Blackburn Rovers.

Last time out, meanwhile, in their final outing heading into the international break, Valerien Ismael and co. surrendered a crucial late advantage, en route to a 3-3 stalemate with Coventry City.

Turning attentions towards the upcoming visitors to Vicarage Road, Birmingham, on the other hand, have enjoyed an altogether more productive time of things of late.

The Blues have seen out the opening five weeks in the Championship without falling to a single defeat.

Instead, John Eustace’s troops have managed a trio of wins, alongside a pair of draws.

This includes an impressive stretch of nine points from nine late last month, which saw Birmingham put all of Leeds, Bristol City, and Plymouth Argyle to the sword.

Then, most recently, the Blues battled their way to a share of the spoils, thanking Jay Stansfield’s 2nd-half equaliser for an eventual 1-1 stalemate with Millwall.

Such endeavours have culminated in a place in 4th in England’s 2nd tier, just two points adrift of table-topping Preston North End.

So, all of this considered, how do we at 101 envision Saturday’s action unfolding at Vicarage Road?

Visitors Birmingham, based on form, should be viewed as clear favourites, but we would not be at all surprised to see an unpredictable Watford side battle their way to an eventual point.
