Sunderland vs Rotherham United match preview

Two sides still searching for a first victory of the Championship campaign are set to lock horns at the Stadium of Light this Saturday, August 19th.

The matchup in question will see Sunderland act as hosts, in a meeting with Rotherham United.

Beginning with the former, Sunderland, after establishing themselves in the thick of the promotion playoff fight last season, have since struggled in efforts to rediscover their best this time round.

First, on opening day, the Black Cats were condemned to a 2-1 defeat by newly-promoted Ipswich Town.

And this was followed last time out by a 2nd loss on the spin, on this occasion at the hands of Preston North End.

Though Jack Clarke did manage to drag Tony Mowbray’s troops on level terms on the half-hour mark at Deepdale, Mads Frøkjær-Jensen’s finish on the other side of the interval proved decisive en route to a 2-1 result.

And yet, Saturday’s Stadium of Light hosts could well fancy their chances of getting things up and running at the 4th time of asking later today.

This comes with upcoming opponents Rotherham having too endured a largely underwhelming start to the new season.

The Millers, for their part, have put a single point on the board across the first two weeks of the term in England’s 2nd tier.

This came last weekend, when Matt Taylor’s men followed up an opening day drubbing at the hands of Stoke City with a 2-2 stalemate with Blackburn Rovers.

Even this, though, only came after they surrendered a two-goal advantage, on the back of Fred Onyedinma’s dismissal early in the 2nd-half.

Rotherham, in turn, find themselves sitting a point and a place clear of Sunderland in the Championship table.

So, all of this considered, how do we at 101 envision Saturday’s action in Tyne and Wear unfolding?

We are backing the day’s hosts to ultimately emerge victorious, from an action-packed affair.
