Stoke City vs Watford match preview

Two sides eyeing a return to winning ways are set to lock horns in a Championship clash at the Bet365 Stadium this Saturday, August 19th.

The matchup in question will see Stoke City act as hosts, in a meeting with Watford.

Beginning with the former, Stoke, on the back of a superb opening to the campaign, found themselves brought firmly back down to earth last weekend.

The Potters kickstarted their latest season in England’s 2nd tier by putting four past Rotherham United two weeks ago.

This, in turn, was followed by a 2nd victory on the spin, on this occasion at the expense of West Bromwich Albion in the first round of the EFL Cup.

A trip to newly-promoted Ipswich Town last time out, however, saw Alex Neil’s troops brought firmly back down to earth.

Turning attentions towards Saturday’s visitors to the Bet365, Watford, too, kicked their season into gear in style.

In fact, the Hornets were responsible for the largest margin of victory of the term to date in the Championship, in subjecting Queens Park Rangers to a four-goal drubbing.

Since, however, Valerien Ismael’s men have not fared quite so well.

First, they were sent packing from the League Cup by League One Stevenage.

Then, this day last week, despite dominating in both possession and chances created, Watford were forced to settle for a share of the spoils, owing to a goalless stalemate with Plymouth Argyle.

Nevertheless, with only Ipswich Town and Leicester City boasting perfect records after the first two Championship gameweeks, the Hornets find themselves sitting pretty in 3rd in the table.

So, all of this considered, how do we at 101 envision Saturday’s action in the English west Midlands playing out?

We are backing Stoke and Watford to cancel each other out, in a clash featuring goals from both sides.
