Match preview

Two sides fresh off altogether contrasting fortunes over the course of the last week are set to lock horns in a Championship clash at the Bet365 Stadium this Saturday, March 18th.

The matchup in question will see Stoke City act as hosts, in a meeting with Norwich City.

Beginning with the former, Stoke, all of a sudden, find themselves as one of the in-form clubs in England’s 2nd tier.

All told, since the turn of the month, the Potters have racked up seven points from an available nine.

Making this achievement all the more impressive, though, is the fact that such results have come at the expense of a trio of clubs battling it out for respective promotion playoff berths.

A head-turning 5-1 drubbing of Sunderland was followed last weekend by a 2nd victory on the spin, on this occasion at the expense of high-flying Blackburn Rovers.

Then, in midweek, Alex Neil’s troops solidified their status as newly-established odds-defiers, in holding rampant Middlesbrough to a share of the spoils at the Riverside Stadium.

Such efforts, all told, have seen Stoke surge clear of the relegation scrap, now looking towards the heights of mid-table.

Safe to say, then, that upcoming opponents Norwich City will have their work firmly cut out for them on Saturday afternoon.

This comes with the Canaries, unlike Stoke, having seen their form trend in an altogether different direction over the course of the last week.

After looking as though they had finally gotten things back on track courtesy of four wins from five, last weekend, David Wagner’s men welcomed struggling Sunderland to Carrow Road.

And, despite dominating when it comes to both possession and chances created, Norwich were ultimately put to the sword by a goal to nil.

This was then followed in midweek by another altogether underwhelming result, as a trip to relegation-battling Huddersfield Town saw Wagner and co. forced to settle for a solitary point.

In a boost for the Canaries, though, Arsenal loanee Marquinhos will be available for selection, after his red card picked up at the John Smith’s Stadium was rescinded upon review.

Nevertheless, based on form, we at 101 actually find ourselves leaning towards Stoke when it comes to the favourites to emerge on the right side of the result at the Bet365 Stadium later today.
