Southampton vs Queens Park Rangers match preview

One of the more lopsided-looking fixtures of the upcoming gameweek in the Championship is set to play out at St. Mary’s Stadium on Saturday, August 26th.

The matchup in question will see Southampton act as hosts, in a meeting with Queens Park Rangers.

Beginning with the former, Southampton’s early efforts to secure a swift return to the top-flight of English football have gotten off to a largely solid start.

The Saints, thus far, have managed seven points from an available nine, courtesy of two wins and a draw.

An opening day downing of Sheffield Wednesday saw Che Adams prove himself the hero, before an early game of the season contender ultimately culminated in the spoils being shared in an eight-goal thriller with Norwich City.

Then, last time out, the transfer-linked Adams was again on target, taking his tally to three goals in three with a 94th-minute winner at Plymouth Argyle.

And Russell Martin’s troops will no doubt be confident in their chances of kicking on ever further towards the Championship’s top spots later today.

This comes with their upcoming opponents having not exactly set the world alight over the early weeks of the new term.

Queens Park Rangers, thus far, have been condemned to defeat in three of their four outings across all competitions in 2023/24.

The Hoops, to their credit, did bounce back from a four-goal opening day drubbing at Watford by putting Cardiff City to the sword in southeast Wales.

Since, however, they have been ousted from the EFL Cup by Norwich, and put to the sword by table-topping Ipswich Town.

With a Championship joint-worst -4 goal difference on the board, Gareth Ainsworth’s men, in turn, find themselves sitting in a lowly 17th in the table.

And we at 101 do not envision their situation at all improving on Saturday, backing hosts Southampton to ultimately emerge comfortable victors upon the full-time whistle bringing a close to proceedings at St. Mary’s.
