Sheffield Wednesday vs Sunderland match preview

The latest round of fixtures in The Championship is set to be kicked into gear at Hillsborough this Friday, September 29th.

The matchup in question will see Sheffield Wednesday act as hosts, in a meeting with Sunderland.

Beginning with the former, Sheffield Wednesday, for their part, will head into proceedings nothing short of desperate for a bounce-back result.

The Owls, since securing their return to the 2nd tier of English football, have endured a campaign to forget.

All told, across eight outings to date, Xisco’s troops have pieced together a paltry haul of two points, owing to a record of two draws, and six defeats.

Most recently, last weekend, a trip to fellow strugglers Swansea City only culminated in Wednesday’s woes being deepened ever further.

This came as goals on the part of all of Jamal Lowe, Jerry Yates, and Charlie Patino gave rise to an eventual 3-0 drubbing.

Such underwhelming efforts, all told, leave Friday’s hosts sitting dead bottom of the Championship table.

Safe to say, then, that upcoming opponents Sunderland will likely fancy their chances of emerging from Hillsborough on the right side of the result later tonight.

The Black Cats, prior to the most recent round of fixtures, had established themselves as one of the division’s most in-form sides.

This came amid a stretch of a trio of successive victories, featuring 11 goals scored.

In turn, it came as a blow when, last weekend, Tony Mowbray’s men were brought firmly back down to earth.

After welcoming Cardiff City to the Stadium of Light, a solitary Mark McGuinness strike with 87 minutes on the clock proved enough to condemn Sunderland to the wrong side of a 1-0 result.

We at 101, though, do not envision the Black Cats being condemned to a 2nd successive defeat on Friday.

Instead, we are backing Mowbray and co. to bounce back, on their way to a comfortable victory over Sheffield Wednesday.
