Sheffield Wednesday vs Ipswich Town match preview

Two sides fresh off altogether contrasting starts to the new season are set to lock horns in a Championship clash at Hillsborough this Saturday, September 16th.

The matchup in question will see newly-promoted pair Sheffield Wednesday and Ipswich Town lock horns once more.

Beginning with the former, Wednesday, for their part, have endured a tough time of things since securing a return to the 2nd-tier of English football.

All told, the Owls have managed to put just a solitary point on the board, condemned to defeat in four of five, whilst also being sent packing from the EFL Cup at the hands of Mansfield Town along the way.

And yet, Xisco’s troops will head into the weekend’s upcoming slate of fixtures with at least something to build upon.

This comes with their sole points haul of the term to date having come last time out, in the club’s final outing ahead of the international break.

Despite as much, though, upcoming opponents Ipswich Town will likely fancy their chances of quickly returning their opponents-in-waiting to earth later today.

The Tractor Boys have enjoyed a thoroughly productive campaign thus far, notching wins in six of their seven fixtures across all competitions.

Most recently, after being condemned to the wrong side of a seven-goal thriller at home to Leeds, Kieran McKenna’s side bounced back, at home to Cardiff City.

After slipping into a two-goal hole early in the 2nd-half, Ipswich came roaring back, Nathan Broadhead’s finish on the hour mark followed by a Freddie Ladapo brace en route to a 3-2 result at Portman Road.

McKenna and co, in turn, find themselves sitting 2nd in the Championship, a point adrift of table-topping Preston North End.

And we at 101 are backing Saturday’s Hillsborough visitors to keep their early-season promotion hunt alive and well on Saturday, courtesy of a comfortable victory over Sheffield Wednesday.
