Rotherham United vs Burnley match preview

Two sides facing up to altogether contrasting ends to the season are set to lock horns in a Championship clash at the New York Stadium this Tuesday, April 18th.

The matchup in question will see Rotherham United act as hosts, in a meeting with Burnley.

Beginning with the latter, Burnley, of course, have long sealed their return to the top-flight of English football, courtesy of a dominant campaign to date.

The Clarets, all told, have been condemned to defeat in just two of their 41 outings, racking up 26 wins along the way.

A full 12 points clear of 2nd-placed Sheffield United with just five games to play, Vincent Kompany’s troops, in turn, have all but wrapped up the title, too.

And yet, upcoming opponents Rotherham may well take confidence from Burnley looking a tad complacent last time out.

Making the trip to the Madejski Stadium for a meeting with Reading, the Clarets were ultimately held to a goalless stalemate, directing just a solitary effort on target along the way.

Rotherham, on the other hand, were condemned to defeat at the weekend.

After welcoming promotion hopefuls Luton Town to south Yorkshire, goals on the part of Carlton Morris and Cauley Woodrow either side of the interval proved enough to condemn the Millers to the wrong side of a 2- result.

This, in turn, means that Matt Taylor’s men have emerged triumphant from just one of their last six, slipping to a trio of defeats along the way.

Such woes leave Rotherham sitting three points clear of the bottom three, albeit, crucially, whilst in possession of a game in hand.

Could the Millers take advantage of overconfidence on Burnley’s part to emerge from Tuesday’s action with a share of the spoils? It’s certainly not out of the question.

But, in truth, the safe bet when taking into account all factors comes in the form of an away victory at the New York Stadium on Tuesday night.
