Match preview

Two sides locked on points in mid-table in the Championship are set to lock horns at the Madejski Stadium on Saturday, January 14th.

The clash in question will see a Reading outfit winless in two play host to a Queens Park Rangers side equally struggling for form.

Starting with the former, Reading, after establishing themselves in the thick of the promotion playoff picture earlier in the campaign, have since majorly struggled in their efforts to string together a consistent stretch of results.

The Royals’ post-World Cup return to action in England’s 2nd tier is a perfect example of as much, with Paul Ince’s troops having racked up two wins and a draw, to go along with two defeats.

And yet, Ince and co. will likely head into Saturday’s action with spirits high in the camp, eyeing all three points at the Madejski.

This comes owing to an impressive FA Cup result last weekend, which saw the Royals send Watford packing from the competition courtesy of goals from Kelvin Abrefa and Shane Long.

Upcoming opponents Queens Park Rangers, on the other hand, endured an altogether less productive outing last time out.

After making the trip to League One Fleetwood Town, the Hoops were ultimately sent packing from the cup, despite Sam Field’s early opener.

And such woes only added further to what have proven nothing short of a nightmare couple of months for all associated with QPR.

Like Reading, the capital outfit were at one point in the term flying high at the heart of the promotion battle.

Since, however, they have notched just a solitary win from 11 across all competitions, with the instillation of Neil Critchley on the bench at Loftus Road last month yet to spark the kind of revival so craved by the club’s fanbase.

The Rs did, to their credit, come within moments of what would have marked a morale-boosting downing of Sheffield United in their most recent league outing, but couldn’t hold on to secure all three points.

And we at 101, in turn, are backing Reading to add ever further to the tense situation in west London come the final whistle at the Madejski Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
