Match preview

Preston North End will be hopeful of keeping alive a stellar stretch of results, when they act as hosts for a Championship clash at Deepdale on Saturday, November 12th.

The outfit keen to prevent as much? Millwall.

The last couple of weeks have seen Preston establish themselves as one of the English 2nd tier’s most in-form sides, courtesy of wins in four of the club’s last five outings.

Three of these have come on the spin, at the expense of Middlesbrough, Swansea City and, most recently, Reading.

A trip to the Madejski in last weekend’s Championship opener ultimately culminated in Ched Evans’ 2nd-half double, either side of Lucas Joao’s equaliser, proving enough to guide the Lilywhites to a hard-fought 2-1 triumph.

Ryan Lowe’s troops, in turn, have climbed into the thick of the playoff promotion battle, locked on points with QPR in 6th, and just a solitary point adrift of 4th-placed Norwich.

Safe to say, then, that the upcoming visitors to Deepdale will have their work cut out for them on Saturday afternoon.

Unlike Preston, Millwall, on the back of a fine stretch of form of their own last month, have found results altogether more difficult to come by over recent weeks.

A quartet of successive victories has since been followed by just two points secured from an available nine.

The Lions’ most recent outing, a home meeting with relegation-battling Hull City last weekend, ultimately saw the visitors do enough to depart The Den with a share of the spoils, despite Oscar Estupinan’s first-half dismissal.

This marked, worryingly, a third straight blank in front of goal for Gary Rowett’s men.

Millwall, for their part, have therefore fallen off the pace of the top-6 race, albeit whilst boasting a game in hand on every side above them in the top half of the table.

We at 101, though, are backing the Lions’ recent struggles to continue through the upcoming weekend, favouring hosts Preston to emerge on the right side of the result come the full-time whistle at Deepdale.
