Preston North End vs Birmingham City match preview

Two sides fresh off altogether contrasting results are set to lock horns as part of the latest round of midweek fixtures in the Championship.

The matchup in question will see high-flying Preston North End play host to Birmingham City at Deepdale.

Beginning with the former, Preston, of course, have proven the surprise package of the early weeks of the campaign in England’s 2nd tier.

Since being held to an opening day draw by Bristol City, the Lilywhites have rattled off five wins on the bounce, to take their place firmly atop the table.

Most recently, in their return to action this past weekend, Ryan Lowe’s troops played host to Plymouth Argyle.

And though they were dominated when it comes to possession and shots at goal alike, when all was said and done, goals on the part of Duane Holmes and Liam Miller proved enough to guide Preston to the right side of a 2-1 result.

Safe to say, then, that Lowe and co. will have their sights firmly on a sixth successive three-point haul on Tuesday night.

Hopeful of keeping their upcoming opponents from as much, though, will be a Birmingham City outfit who, prior to the latest round of fixtures, had too navigated the term to date without a single defeat.

Across the first five gameweeks, the Blues pieced together a solid record of three wins and two draws.

This past Saturday, though, they were brought very much back down to earth.

This came as a trip to Vicarage Road to face Watford culminated in the most heartbreaking of outcomes.

After Lee Buchanan was given his marching orders with just minutes remaining in proceedings, Watford took full advantage, netting a pair of injury-time goals to ultimately emerge 2-0 victors.

Birmingham, in turn, have slipped to 6th in the standings in England’s 2nd tier.

And we at 101 envision things going from bad to worse for John Eustace’s men later today, backing hosts Preston to get the job done on their way to another victory come the full-time whistle at Deepdale.
