Plymouth Argyle and Southampton match preview

Two sides boasting identical records on the back of the opening two rounds of fixtures of The Championship campaign are set to lock horns at Home Park this Saturday, August 19th.

The matchup in question will see Plymouth Argyle act as hosts, in a meeting with Southampton.

Beginning with the former, Plymouth, for their part, kicked their return to the 2nd tier of English football into gear in style, courtesy of a 3-1 downing of Huddersfield Town.

And though they did not quite manage a 2nd successive victory last time out, Steven Schumacher’s troops did battle their way to another solid result.

This came as a trip to Vicarage Road saw the Pilgrims dominated when it came to both possession and chances created, en route to a 0-0 draw with Watford.

Such efforts, all told, leave Plymouth 4th in the Championship table, with four points on the board.

First, a trip to newly-promoted Sheffield Wednesday saw the Saints thank a late Che Adams strike for a deserved 2-1 triumph.

Then, last weekend, Russell Martin’s men played their part in an early contender for game of the season.

On this occasion, it was Adam Armstrong who proved himself the hero, netting an equaliser a full six minutes into injury time, to clinch a share of the spoils in a pulsating 4-4 stalemate with Norwich City.

Southampton, as a result, too find themselves with four points from two outings, albeit two spots back of upcoming hosts Plymouth in the table, owing to goal difference.

So, all of this considered, how do we at 101 envision Saturday’s action playing out in England’s southwest?

We are backing an eventual sharing of the spoils, albeit with visitors Southampton the narrow favourites to take all three points.
