Middlesbrough vs Burnley match preview

The headline fixture of the upcoming Championship gameweek is set to play out at the Riverside Stadium on Friday, April 7th.

The matchup in question will see Middlesbrough act as hosts, in a showdown with table-topping Burnley.

Beginning with the former, Middlesbrough are primed to head into tonight’s action in search of a bounce-back result.

This comes after Michael Carrick’s high-lying troops were condemned to a rare, and shock defeat last time out.

In their return to action post-international break, Boro looked in firm control of proceedings upon taking the lead at relegation-battling Huddersfield just shy of the interval.

A complete and utter collapse early in the 2nd-half, however, ultimately culminated in the visitors to the John Smith’s Stadium being condemned to the wrong side of a 4-2 result.

And Friday’s hosts at the Riverside could not have asked for a more difficult assignment in efforts to get swiftly back on track.

This comes with upcoming opponents Burnley having not fallen to a single defeat since all the way back in November, a stretch of 18 league fixtures.

More recently, the Clarets have notched three wins from five, including four and three-goal drubbings of Huddersfield and Wigan respectively.

Last time out, Vincent Kompany’s men were held, making it two winless outings on the spin across all competitions after being sent packing from the FA Cup by a rampant Manchester City.

A home meeting with Sunderland saw the Black Cats stand tall, to ultimately emerge from Turf Moor with a hard-earned, and deserved share of the spoils.

And yet, Burnley nevertheless remain a full 11 points clear of the chasing pack at the Championship summit.

Despite Middlesbrough’s long-standing excellence, the Clarets should therefore be viewed as favourites to ultimately emerge from the Riverside with all three points later tonight.

Do not be surprised, though, if Michael Carrick’s hosts battle their way to a point, in what is no doubt set to prove a thoroughly entertaining affair in north Yorkshire.
