Leeds United vs Watford match preview

Two sides with sights on a return to winning ways are set to lock horns in a Championship clash at Elland Road this Saturday, September 23rd.

The matchup in question will see Leeds United act as hosts, in a meeting with Watford.

Beginning with the former, Leeds, to their credit, have recovered from a difficult start to the campaign to get things very much back on track over recent weeks.

The Whites, all told, have now seen out their last five without defeat, a stretch featuring impressive road wins over both Ipswich Town and Millwall.

Most recently, in midweek, Daniel Farke’s troops made the trip to in-form Hull City.

And, once more, Leeds stood tall, battling their way to a share of the spoils despite Joe Rodon’s dismissal on the hour mark.

Such efforts leave the Yorkshire club sitting 9th in the table, albeit in the knowledge that a victory on Saturday could guide them into the thick of the early-season promotion playoff picture.

Hopeful of stopping such a push in its tracks, though, will be the aforementioned Watford.

Like Leeds, Watford have too managed to steady the ship of late, after looking completely out of sorts across the season’s early weeks.

Since slipping to successive defeats at the hands of Stoke City and Blackburn Rovers, the Hornets have managed three straight outings without a loss.

In their post-international break return, Valerien Ismael and co. had a pair of injury-time goals to thank for a 2-0 downing of high-flying Birmingham City.

And this was followed in midweek by a solid-if-unspectacular point, when strikes from Tom Ince and Matheus Martins culminated in a 2-2 stalemate with West Bromwich Albion.

Watford, in turn, sit in a lowly 14th in the standings in England’s 2nd tier.

So, all of this taken into consideration, how do we at 101 envision Saturday’s action unfolding at Elland Road?

We are backing hosts Leeds to ultimately get the job done, to make it three wins in their last five.
