The Terrier’s dismal start to the season continued on Wednesday night with a 2-0 defeat away to Bristol City. Considering it is largely the same side that reached the playoff final last time out, fans will be alarmed by this extremely poor run of form which has seen them win just one of their opening seven games.
While they have spent decent money on Wimbledon prospect Jack Rudoni, all other signings have been free transfers or loans which will annoy fans considering the £10 million combined fee they received for Lewis O’Brien and Harry Toffolo from big-spending Nottingham Forest. However, Town do go into this game as strong favourites with bookies pricing them at 7/5 to take all three points against Blackpool.
The Tangerines have had a bizarre first seven games, with two consecutive 3-3 draws against Burnley and Bristol City, which was followed up by a 1-0 loss to Lancashire rivals Blackburn. Like Huddersfield, Blackpool have not spent at all in the market and have instead opted for signing young players on loan from various Premier League clubs.
This can be a clever strategy, however, having too many youngsters in the team does come with teething issues as they make the adjustment from U23′s football to playing regularly in the notoriously tough and physical second division. The bookies are not predicting them to win here, with odds of 15/8 on a Blackpool victory.
