Cardiff City vs Sheffield Wednesday match preview

Two sides fresh off altogether disappointing starts to the new campaign are set to lock horns in a Championship clash at the Cardiff City Stadium on Saturday, August 26th.

The matchup in question will see Cardiff City act as hosts, in a meeting with Sheffield Wednesday.

Beginning with the former, Cardiff kicked their season into gear in largely solid fashion, following up an opening day point at Leeds United by booking their spot in the 2nd round of the EFL Cup.

Since, however, the Bluebirds have struggled.

First, a home meeting with Queens Park Rangers saw Ike Ugbo’s late strike prove little more than a consolation, en route to a concerning 2-1 defeat.

Then, last time out, summer arrival Aaron Ramsey’s first-half finish looked set to prove enough for a credible share of the spoils away to high-flying Leicester City.

Such woes leave Erol Bulut’s troops clear of the Championship’s bottom three by way of no more than goal difference.

And yet, Cardiff could well fancy their chances of getting things back on track this weekend.

This comes with the Welsh giants’ upcoming opponents having endured an even more alarming stretch to open the new term.

Sheffield Wednesday, for their part, currently sit dead bottom of England’s 2nd tier.

This comes owing to a record of three defeats from three.

The Owls stand as the only side in the division yet to pick up a single point, toiling in their efforts to reacclimatise to the rigours of Championship football.

After being put to the sword in deserved fashion by Southampton on opening day, another loss followed, by four goals to two at Hull City.

Then, most recently, a solitary Liam Lindsay strike proved enough to guide Preston North End to all three points at Hillsborough.

So, all of this taken into consideration, how do we at 101 envision Saturday’s action playing out at the Cardiff City Stadium?

Though an eventual stalemate should not be ruled out, we are backing hosts Cardiff to pile the misery on their struggling opponents come the full-time whistle in southeast Wales.
