Two sides in the thick of the battle against relegation from the Championship are set to lock horns at the Cardiff City Stadium on Saturday, December 17th.

The clash in question will see Cardiff City play host to Blackpool.

First, let’s delve into the recent endeavours of the former.

Cardiff headed into the World Cup break in the midst of a concerning spell of form, which had seen them slip to defeat in six of the club’s prior eight outings.

The Bluebirds, in turn, were dragged firmly into the battle against the drop, amid a tense situation at the foot of England’s 2nd tier.

In turn, after surrendering an early advantage en route to falling behind at Stoke City in their return to action last weekend, Mark Hudson’s troops looked in real danger of being condemned to yet another damaging loss.

To their credit, though, Cardiff soon levelled things up through Callum Robinson, to eventually depart the Bet365 Stadium with a deserved share of the spoils.

The Welsh outfit, as a result, sit 20th in the Championship table, a solitary point clear of the bottom three.

And yet, as things stand, the situation of Cardiff’s upcoming opponents looks an even more precarious one.

Blackpool have long stood as one of the most out of form sides in England’s 2nd tier.

All told, the seasiders have secured just a solitary point from an available 15 dating back to the beginning of November, a run which included a quartet of successive defeats.

Such woes leave Michael Appleton and co. 2nd from bottom in the table, two points from safety, and their hosts-to-be this weekend.

A point secured last time out, whilst unspectacular, would therefore no doubt have marked something of a relief for a side now looking amongst the favourites for relegation.

This came as a showdown with Birmingham City at Bloomfield Road ultimately gave rise to a goalless stalemate.

A similar point in Wales this weekend would therefore go a long way towards getting Blackpool’s season back on track, or at least further steadying the ship.
