Bristol City vs Preston North End match preview

Two sides to have closed out the 2022/23 campaign separated by just four points are set to lock horns in a Championship weekend opener at Ashton Gate on Saturday, August 5th.

The matchup in question will see Bristol City act as hosts, in a meeting with Preston North End.

Beginning with the former, Bristol will be hopeful of carrying a solid stretch of form to close out last season, as well as five wins from six across the summer, into the early weeks of the new term.

The Robins have secured solid summer reinforcements in the form of Jason Knight and Ross McCrorie, ready to add a new element to Nigel Pearson’s midfield ranks.

Confidence, in turn, should be high in the camp at Ashton gate, ahead of the opening round of fixtures in England’s 2nd tier.

What, though, of upcoming opponents Preston North End?

And the Lilywhites have not fared much better in pre-season, either, giving rise to spreading concern at Deepdale.

The addition of Will Keane, though, should prove an important one over the season’s length, after Ryan Lowe’s men struggled badly in front of goal last time out.

Liverpool loanee Calvin Ramsay is another who could make a difference, with Duane Holmes’ free agent arrival adding further to a solid summer’s work on the part of the powers that be at Preston.

So, all told, what does this mean for Saturday’s clash?

Hosts Bristol City are backed as favourites by the bookmakers, and for good reason.

We at 101, though, would not be at all surprised to see the spoils ultimately shared come the full-time whistle bringing proceedings to a close at Ashton Gate.
