Bristol City vs Plymouth Argyle match preview

Two sides eyeing a return to winning ways are set to lock horns as part of the upcoming round of midweek Championship fixtures on Tuesday, September 19th.

The matchup in question will see Bristol City act as hosts, in a meeting with Plymouth Argyle.

Beginning with the former, Bristol City, for their part, have enjoyed a solid-if-unspectacular start to the new campaign.

All told, across their six outings to date, the Robins have rattled off two wins, three draws, and just a solitary defeat.

Most recently, in their return to action post-international break, Nigel Pearson’s troops welcomed West Bromwich Albion to Ashton Gate, eyeing a 2nd win on the spin.

When all was said and done, however, Bristol were instead forced to settle for a share of the spoils, owing to a goalless stalemate.

Having now failed to find the net in three of their last five across all competitions, Tuesday’s hosts will be hopeful of a more productive showing in the final third later this evening.

Turning attentions towards the upcoming visitors to Ashton Gate, Plymouth, too, have largely stuttered their way through the early weeks of the season in England’s 2nd tier.

Since sealing a return to the Championship courtesy of promotion from League One, the Pilgrims’ record stands at two wins, a draw, and three defeats.

All three of these losses, though, in defence of Steven Schumacher’s side, have come at the hands of clubs in the thick of the early-season promotion scrap.

This includes this past weekend, when Plymouth made the trip to Deepdale for a meeting with table-topping Preston North End.

Though Ryan Hardie did spark hope of a comeback after pulling one back just beyond the hour mark, the damage had long been done, early goals on the part of Duane Holmes and Liam Millar guiding Preston to the right side of a 2-1 result.

Plymouth, as a result, find themselves sitting 14th in the table, two points adrift of their hosts-in-waiting.

All things considered, we at 101 are therefore backing an eventual stalemate to play out between the Pilgrims and Bristol City at Ashton Gate on Tuesday night.
