Bristol City vs Birmingham City match preview

Two sides boasting identical records on the back of the opening two rounds of fixtures of The Championship campaign are set to lock horns at Ashton Gate this Saturday, August 19th.

The matchup in question will see Bristol City act as hosts, in a meeting with Birmingham City.

Beginning with the former, Bristol City kicked their season into gear courtesy of a solid if unspectacular 1-1 stalemate with Preston North End.

This, though, has since been followed by an impressive pair of back-to-back victories.

First, in the opening round of the EFL Cup, the Robins ran riot, putting five past Oxford United to book a 2nd round meeting with Norwich City.

Then, in their return to league action last weekend, Nigel Pearson’s troops made the trip to The Den, ultimately emerging on the right side of a 1-0 scoreline courtesy of a last-gasp Matty James winner.

Such endeavours, all told, leave Bristol City sitting 10th in England’s 2nd tier, albeit level with Watford all the way up in 3rd.

Turning attentions towards the upcoming visitors to Ashton Gate, Birmingham City, as alluded to above, have enjoyed an equally fruitful start to the new Championship campaign.

The Blues, for their part, kicked things into gear by way of a hard-fought point at Swansea City.

Then, after making short work of Cheltenham Town in the EFL Cup, John Eustace’s men were tasked with a meeting with Leeds United last weekend.

And Birmingham went on to make it two wins on the spin across all competitions, courtesy of Lukas Jutkiewicz’s injury-time spot-kick.

Saturday’s Ashton Gate opponents, in turn, find themselves locked on both points and goal difference in the table.

So, how do we at 101 envision proceedings unfolding in England’s southwest later today?

Based on form, we are backing Bristol City and Birmingham to cancel each other out, en route to an eventual sharing of the spoils.
