Birmingham City vs Plymouth Argyle match preview

A Birmingham City outfit fresh off an impressive start to the new season are set to act as hosts, in a Championship showdown with Plymouth Argyle at St. Andrew’s Stadium this Saturday, August 26th.

The Blues, for their part, are currently flying high in 4th in the table in England’s 2nd tier.

This comes owing to a record of one draw, and two victories.

John Eustace’s troops kicked their campaign into gear with a hard-fought draw at Swansea City, before a comfortable EFL Cup downing of Cheltenham Town was followed by a first-three point haul of the term at the expense of Leeds United.

Then, last weekend, Birmingham made it a trio of successive victories across all competitions.

Bristol City proved the Blues’ latest victims, Koji Miyoshi and Lukas Jutkiewicz finding the net en route to an eventual 2-0 triumph at Ashton Gate.

Hopeful of preventing as much, as alluded to above, will be Plymouth Argyle.

Plymouth are of course enjoying their first season back in England’s 2nd division in a full 13 years, after finishing top of the League One table in 2022/23.

They have since gone on to manage a solid if unspectacular start, to the tune of one win, one draw, and one defeat.

The Pilgrims kicked things into gear in stellar fashion, courtesy of a 3-1 downing of Huddersfield Town, before booking their spot in the 2nd round of the EFL Cup at the expense of Leyton Orient.

A credible 0-0 stalemate at Watford followed, before Steven Schumacher’s men were condemned to a first defeat of the term in heartbreaking fashion last weekend.

After looking as though they had done enough to secure a share of the spoils in a meeting with Southampton, Che Adams’ injury-time strike proved the difference in an eventual 2-1 result.

Plymouth, in turn, find themselves sitting in mid-table in the Championship.

So, all of this considered, how do we at 101 envision Saturday’s action playing out at St. Andrew’s?

Hosts Birmingham should be considered narrow favourites, but we would not be at all surprised to see Plymouth continue to impress, en route to a hard-earned point.
