Sorare Gameweek 397: 101 Great Goals Team of the Week

The Premier League kicks off on Friday with defending champions and treble winners Manchester City kicking off their defence with a trip to newly-promoted, managed by former club captain and title winner Vincent Kompany.

It will be an intriguing meeting between Kompany and Pep Guardiola, while there will also be interest over the performance of the City squad given it was just eight weeks since they clinched the treble with the Champions League win over Inter Milan, with players such as Kevin de Bruyne still not fully recovered.

City start out as favourites for the league this year but last year’s runners-up Arsenal will be keen to avenge the disappointment of last year, while Liverpool’s trip to Chelsea is arguably the tie of the weekend.

101 Great Goals will be running a Premier League Amateur league on Sorare throughout the 2023/24 season which you can access via the following code: HA1CAC

Each week we will break down our selection and the reasons behind each player.

101 Great Goals Sorare team

Jordan Pickford

While Everton appear set for another difficult year after making very little headway in the transfer market and being restricted in the business they can do, Pickford is still another player who could score well on Sorare this season. Goalkeepers score well depending on the number of saves they make as well as their distribution – two areas in which Pickford excels.

Luke Shaw

Shaw had a brilliant end to the season on Sorare, averaging 61 in his L15 and a brilliant 72 in his L5. With the Manchester United defence seemingly back to full fitness and the addition of Andre Onana to their ranks, the defence is likely to be sturdier this season leaving Shaw to concentrate on his attacking returns.

Arguably one of the best crossers of the ball from full-back in the league, Shaw is a huge threat for Manchester United in attack and as such poses an all-round threat on Sorare. He will be given a licence to roam forward and improve upon last season’s tally of just two assists.

Bukayo Saka

Saka should be a non-negotiable for pretty much any Sorare or FPL side this season. The Arsenal academy product continues to go from strength to strength, ending last season with 25 goal involvements in the league (14 goals, 11 assists) – an improvement of seven from the previous season.

He is virtually guaranteed to start every match for the Gunners, take penalties and be the go-to man throughout the campaign. There is a sense that there is still more to come from Saka and he will be eyeing somewhere near 20 goals this season.

Kaoru Mitoma

Mitoma was one of last season’s breakout stars with seven goals and five assists in 24 league starts. His pace and direct running caused all sorts of problems for teams in the Premier League last season, making him one of the must-have Sorare assets fairly early on.

The challenge for Mitoma will be to prove he isn’t just a one-season wonder but the signs from pre-season are that he will hit the ground running and once again be a nuisance to all defences.

Erling Haaland

Surely no one needs reminding of the impact Haaland had on the Premier League last season?

A record 36 goals makes him the first name on the teamsheet in any Sorare team. He is pretty much guaranteed to get chances and more often than not he puts them away. He will provide a steady stream of points for your team and given that he doesn’t contribute hugely in open play, his price may not be as astronomic as it could be so jump on it!
