Celtic vs St Mirren match preview
After suffering defeat in last weekend’s damp squib derby, Celtic will be looking to get back to winning ways.
A week ago, the Hoops suffered their heaviest domestic defeat for two years, smashing 3-0 by Rangers at Ibrox.
Nevertheless, having secured the title at Tynecastle the previous weekend, Ange Postecoglou rotated heavily and his side simply weren’t up for it.
However, with a Scottish Cup Final against Inverness Caley Thistle to come in a fortnight, Celtic cannot afford to completely clock off, even if their three remaining league games have no importance to them.
Prior to last weekend, only one Scottish club had managed to beat Celtic this season and that was St Mirren, victorious 2-0 in Paisley back in September.
More broadly, the Saints are enjoying an historic season, having finish in the top six for the first time since the split’s introduction in 2001.
Last weekend, Stephen Robinson’s side led 2-0 at home to ten-man Hearts, Joe Shaughnessy and Ryan Strain on target, but threw away two points, conceding a very soft 96th minute penalty as it ended all square.
Thus, having failed to win any of their last four, St Mirren remain sixth, three points below Hibs, needing to sneak into the top five to qualify for the Europa Conference League.
The Saints’ two visits to Celtic Park this season have seen them beaten 4-0 and 5-1, with a similar scoreline expected.
