Man United rebuffed in opening offer for Atalanta star

Premier League giants Manchester United have seen an offer for an up-and-coming member of the attacking setup at Atalanta knocked back, according to reports.

The player at the heart of the proposal? Rasmus Hojlund.

For those not aware, frontman Hojlund is fresh off something of a breakout campaign.

Across stints in Italy and Austria, the 20-year-old took to the pitch on 42 occasions, notching an eye-catching 23 direct goal contributions along the way.

It was his exploits on the international stage, though, which saw clubs across the continent truly begin to stand up and take notice.

This came as, back in March, Hojlund took full advantage of his first competitive start for Denmark by way of a hat-trick versus Finland.

On the lookout for an answer to their long-term woes at centre-forward, it has therefore come as little surprise to hear of the aforementioned Manchester United being tipped as a potential landing spot for Hojlund this summer.

And, if the latest word stemming from the Italian media is anything to go by, then the powers that be at Old Trafford have already gone as far as to table an opening bid for the Dane.

As per a report from Il Corriere dello Sport (via Football-Italia), United recently offered a considerable €35 million for Atalanta’s crown jewel.

La Dea, however, swiftly knocked the proposal back.

This comes with the hierarchy in Bergamo having made clear that Hojlund will not be allowed to depart for anything less than €45 million.
