FPL 2023/24: Best captain picks gameweek 1

The 2023/24 Premier League season is set to get underway later this week.

The return of the Premier League, of course, also brings with it the return of Fantasy Premier League.

One of the most important aspects of FPL is picking your captain each week. Whoever you select as your captain with earn double their standard score, or triple it if you chose to play your triple captain chip, which you can do once per season.

But deciding on your captain each week can be a very tough decision that can make or break your game week.

With this in mind, 101GreatGoals will be providing you with an insight into the best captain picks for every game week this season.

Best FPL captains gameweek 1

Bruno Fernandes vs Wolves (8.5m)

Manchester United have a kind opening fixture this season as they face Wolves at home.

It is a tie Manchester United should be winning and a game Bruno Fernandes is expected to perform well in.

Marcus Rashford vs Wolves (9.0m)

The second-best captain choice for gameweek 1 is Marcus Rashford. Rashford had a sensational 2022/23 season and looks set to continue that form into the current campaign. Using FFH’s predictor, Rashford is being backed to get 0.63 goals, 0.20 assists and has 0.4 chance of keeping a clean sheet, giving him a total points prediction of 6.5.

Erling Haaland vs Burnley (14.0m)

Your main captain choice this week, though, is unsurprisingly, Erling Haaland.

Manchester City kick off their campaign against newly-promoted Burnley in a tie they are expected to dominate.

Erling Haaland scored a record 36 league goals last season and is predicted to earn 8.2 points in FPL this week, which is the most of any player by some distance.
