Poland vs Germany match preview

Will Poland claim a memorable friendly victory over the neighbours in Warsaw?

Manager Fernando Santos will be desperately hoping for a result here, after enduring a mixed start to life as Poland manager in March.

In his first game at the helm, the White-Reds were demolished 3-1 by Czechia in Europe qualifying, finding themselves 2-0 down after less than three minutes in Prague, which is far from ideal.

Three days later, Poland were able to get back on track, beating Albania at home, with Karol Świderski the only scorer.

Despite that opening night defeat, Santos’ side are likely to qualify for the Euros with plenty to spare, taking on Moldova in Chișinău in their next qualifier in four days time.

Before then, can they claim a notable scalp?

On Monday night, Hansi Flick’s side welcomed Ukraine to Bremen and played out an entertaining 3-3 draw, needing to score twice late on to salvage a share of spoils.

Niclas Füllkrug, Kai Havertz and Joshua Kimmich the scorers.

Meantime back in March, die Mannschaft more enjoyed mixed results from their two friendlies, first easily beating Peru 2-0 before a 3-2 defeat at the hands of Belgium in Köln.

Having crashed out in last year’s World Cup group stages, Flick is under pressure to deliver success on home soil in 12 months time.

The last time these two teams met in Warsaw, Poland ran out 2-0 winners in Euro 2016 qualifying, their sole victory of Germany, despite the fact the two sides have met 21 times.

Will the home supporters be celebrating a win at Stadion Narodowy?
