Pep Guardiola sends message to Julian Alvarez ahead of World Cup final

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has sent a message to forward Julian Alvarez ahead of Argentina’s meeting with France.


France and Argentina will clash on Sunday afternoon in the final of the 2022 World Cup.

France beat Morocco in the semis to book their spot in the final, whilst Argentina overcame Croatia,

The final will also be Lionel Messi’s last World Cup appearance, with the 35-year-old looking to cap off a record-breaking career by winning the one trophy that still alludes him.

But whilst Messi’s career is winding down, his international teammates’ is just beginning.

Julian Alvarez linked up with Manchester City this past summer and has since had a sensational World Cup, becoming the youngster player to score a brace in a WC semi-final since Pele.

Now, ahead of what is likely to be the first of many major finals for Alvarez, Pep Guardiola has sent the striker a message:

“All of us are very happy for him. He will play the final that will happen and then he will have a few days off to rest and then he will come back.”

Guardiola’s comments on Alvarez came after watching a Manchester City side mixed with first-team players and academy stars beat Girona 2-0 at the Academy Stadium.

Kevin De Bruyne and Erling Haaland both scored as City prepared for the return of competitive action on Thursday when they face Liverpool in the League Cup.
