World Cup 2022

Cameroon betting tips, news and predictions

Cameroon will be heading to their eighth World Cup when they head to Qatar in November, but have not made it out of the group stage in seven of those tournaments, with just four wins to their name in World Cup history.

Rigobert Song’s side topped their group with five wins from their six games in Africa, before knocking Algeria out in the play-off round to secure their place at Qatar.

Drawn in a group with Switzerland, Serbia and Brazil, Les Lions Indomptables will be long outsiders to make it into the knockout stages of the competition for the second time in their history, but stranger things have happened.

Cameroon to win the World Cup - 250/1

Cameroon are not expected to progress very far in the World Cup

fire

A £10 bet at 250/1 would return £2500!

World Cup 2022

Despite lofty ambitious from the chief of the Cameroon FA, Samuel Eto’o, Cameroon are unlikely to progress too far in the tournament despite having some dangerous players at their disposal. In a tough group, they will struggle to qualify for the knockout rounds and even if they do, they might be capable of an upset or two but progressing all the way to the final - or even the semis - will be too much.

Cameroon Golden Boot Prediction

Vincent Aboubakar to win the golden boot - 150/1

Vincent Aboubakar will lead the line for Cameroon and has been a prolific striker for a long time

fire

At 150/1, a £10 bet on Aboubakar would return £1500

World Cup 2022

Despite Aboubakar’s undoubted quality, it would take some run of form for him to challenge the golden boot favourites and push Cameroon through to the knockouts. He could hit one or two and potentially cause an upset, but is unlikely to have the supply to seriously threaten the big hitters.

Manager

Rigobert Song

The most capped Cameroon international of all time with 137 appearances to his name, Song was appointed manager of the national team early in 2022 having previously held the role on a temporary basis four years previously.

Samuel Eto’o, the president of the Cameroonian Football Federation, has already said that the goal is to win the World Cup, so Song is already facing a huge task.

Key players

Andre Onana

Any successful tournament begins with a good shot-stopper, and Inter Milan’s Andre Onana is up there among the best available. The former Ajax man will need to be on top form despite his limited minutes in Serie A for Cameroon to make it out of the group stages.

Vincent Aboubakar

Now plying his trade in Saudi Arabia, Cameroon’s captain remains a key man for his country, and scored an impressive 8 goals at the Africa Cup of Nations last winter, though he netted just twice in World Cup qualifying.

His experience, link-up play and finishing will be vital to any success Cameroon experience this winter.

André-Frank Zambo Anguissa

Anguissa’s career has been a strange one, but after a miserable spell at Fulham, it appears that he has come on leaps and bounds while at Napoli, starring as his side beat Liverpool in the Champions League.

The midfielder will be key to keeping the Cameroon engine room ticking over, while he will be looking to add to his five goals for the senior national team in the process.

Fan expectation for Cameroon in the World Cup

The aspirations around the World Cup are huge in Cameroon. Since Cameroon’s all-time leading scorer Samuel Eto’o took over the management of the country’s football Federation Fecafoot, there’s a renewed impetus around the Indomitable Lions.

Eto’o, who appointed Cameroon’s most capped player Rigobert Song as head coach of the Indomitable Lions has said the goal for Cameroon is to win the world cup. He has stressed that only players willing to sacrifice for the country will go to the world cup and fans are going with it.

However the recent 2-0 loss to Uzbekistan in a friendly in Seoul has sort of dented hopes and fans are now concerned whether the Lions will be able to dominate three huge opponents in Brazil, Switzerland and Serbia in the World Cup.
