Barcelona pair singled out for widespread criticism after World Cup final

Viewers of the World Cup final have flooded to social media late on Sunday evening, to take aim at two members of Didier Deschamps’ France squad.

The latest edition of world football’s biggest fixture, of course, was played to completion a short time ago.

The clash in question saw Lionel Messi’s Argentina face off with reigning champions France, for the title of the international game’s very best.

A frankly staggering 120 minutes followed, which saw proceedings ultimately forced to a penalty shootout after the two footballing giants shared six goals.

And, when all was said and done, it was Argentina who held their nerve, slotting all four of their spot-kicks beyond the helpless Hugo Lloris to spark chaotic celebrations across the globe.

Whilst Lionel Scaloni’s squad kicked into gear what will no doubt prove a night filled with joyous memories and smiles, on the flip side of things, Didier Deschamps’ France have been left to ponder what might have been.

In turn, it came as little surprise to see a number of the 2018 world champions’ stars singled out for heavy criticism online.

None, though, were more widely targeted than Ousmane Dembele, and Jules Kounde.

Those to have taken in the action in Lusail this evening will of course be fully aware of what a torrid time of things wide-man Dembele endured, ultimately culminating in him being pulled from the action inside the first half of play.

Right flank partner Kounde, meanwhile, was turned inside out on a host of occasions by Angel Di Maria, amid a throwback display on the part of the veteran attacker.

In turn, in the aftermath of France’s defeat, the Barcelona pair have been the targets of ruthless backlash across social media, the highlights of which can be seen below:
