World Cup 2022

Argentina set surprise World Cup record vs France

Argentina and France played out the 2022 World Cup final on Sunday.

France headed into the game as the slight favourites to lift the trophy.

However, after 40 minutes of the match, Les Bleus have looked less than impressive.

Diddier Deschamaps’ side started slow against England in the quarter-final, but unlike England, the South American outfit have punished France twice.

Lionel Messi opened the scoring from the spot after Ousmane Dembele brought down Angel Di Maria.

Argentina then scored a sensational counter-attacking goal 35 minutes in to make it 2-0 on the day and likely secure themselves the World Cup.

After netting Argentina’s second, Angel Di Maria became the first player in Argentina’s history to score in both the Copa America final and the World Cup final.

Elsewhere, it was revealed that Argentina have now been awarded five penalties at 2022 World Cup, which is the most penalties awarded to one team at a single World Cup tournament since stats began in 1966.
