Report: Manchester United could re-sign Memphis Depay today

The Red Devils could boost their frontline with the addition of the Dutchman

Manchester United could re-sign Memphis Depay as early as today, according to sensational reports coming out of Spain, after the Dutchman’s move to Juventus collapsed.

Depay was expected to join the Turin side on a free transfer, with his contract termination with Barcelona to be agreed after he reaches a contract agreement with another side. However, Juventus decided to pull the plug on operations, instead opting to sign Arkadiusz Milik from Marseille on loan for the upcoming season, with his 7m euro salary thought to be a major stumbling block.

Now, as per a report from Spanish outlet Sport, Manchester United has emerged as an unlikely homecoming destination for Depay, with Erik ten Hag desperate to add to his attack before the close of the transfer window

”Erik Ten Hag, requested his incorporation as it was a market opportunity and Memphis would prioritize his return to Manchester. The situation should be resolved today”, they claim.

Depay has already had one, unsuccessful spell with Manchester United, making 53 appearances for the Red Devils in an 18-month spell before he left the club for Lyon, netting just 7 times in that period.

Should he return to Old Trafford, it would be on a free transfer, and would certainly add to the options available to Erik ten Hag’s frontline.

Manchester United looking to make double swoop

Beyond Depay, the Red Devils are looking to add at least two more new faces before deadline day, with a loan move for Newcastle United goalkeeper Martin Dubravka having been made and a new, 90m+ offer set to be submitted for Ajax forward Antony.
