Premier League footballer has bail extended as one of three rape allegations dropped

The star was arrested in July and initially bailed until August

The Premier League star questioned on three allegations of rape from two women has seen one allegation dropped, as his bail has been extended until October.

The player, 29, was arrested at an address in Barnet, north London on July 4th and remained in custody on for over 24 hours. While his identity must remain anonymous for legal reasons, he is described as ‘internationally renowned’. He is also due to play at the World Cup this November.

“On 4 July, an allegation of rape of a woman in her 20s was reported to police,” the Met Police said in a statement. “It was reported the alleged rape happened in June 2022. On 4 July, a 29-year-old man was arrested at an address in Barnet on suspicion of rape and taken into custody. While in custody, he was further arrested on suspicion of two incidents of rape that were alleged to have been committed in April and June of 2021 against a different woman in her 20s.

“No further action will be taken in relation to the offence in June 2021 but the investigation into the remaining offences is ongoing. The man was initially bailed until a date in August but his bail has since been extended to a date in early October.”

The player in question, the Telegraph add, continues to play for his side, with the club well aware of the allegations, and he is in line to line out for his club on the opening weekend of the season.
